DTC 22: Vehicle Speed Signal
DTC 23: Engine Speed Signal
NOTE:
• If the MIL indicator stays o n , troubleshoot the PGM-FI
system first.
• The vehicle speed decreases abruptly f r o m 12 m p h
(20 km/h) or more (by applying brake), and it is less
than 1 m p h (1 km/h) and engine speed is 2,000 r p m or
above for 5 seconds (continuously) after the abrupt
deceleration.
• While t u r n i n g the steering w h e e l w i t h the vehicle
speed of 1 m p h (1 km/h) or less for 20 seconds, and
the engine speed is 2,000 r p m or above for at least
10 seconds.
• W h e n the engine speed is 500 r p m or less, and the
vehicle is travelling at a speed of 6 m p h (10 km/h) or
more for about 3 seconds.
1. Start the engine and check the tachometer.
Is the tachometer
working
correctly?
5. Check for continuity between EPS control unit
connector C (13P) t e r m i n a l No. 10 and body g r o u n d .

YES—Repair short t o g r o u n d in the w i r e between
PCM and EPS control u n i t . H
N O — G o t o step 6.
Y E S — G o t o step 2.
NO—Perform the gauge self-diagnostic function
(see page 22-226). If the tachometer is OK, go to
step 2.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and restart the engine.
3. Test-drive the vehicle, and w a t c h the EPS indicator.
Does the EPS indicator
come on?
Y E S — G o t o step 4.
NO—The system is OK at this t i m e . •
4. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then disconnect the
EPS control unit connector C (13P) and PCM
connector A (31P).
