6. Brake pedal position switch adjustment: Push in the
brake pedal position switch until its plunger is fully
pressed (threaded end (A) t o u c h i n g the pad (B) on
the pedal arm). Then, t u r n the switch 45 ° clockwise
to lock it. The gap between the brake pedal position
switch and the pad is automatically adjusted
0.7 m m (0.03 in.) by locking the switch. Make sure
the brake lights go off w h e n the pedal is released.
7. Idle stop switch adjustment:
Adjust the idle stop switch (C). Screw in the idle
stop switch until its plunger is fully pressed
(threaded end (D) is t o u c h i n g the pad on the pedal
arm). Then back off the switch 1/4 t u r n to make
0.3 m m (0.01 in.) of clearance between the
threaded end and the pad. Tighten the locknut
f i r m l y . Connect the idle stop switch connector.
W h e n finished, start the engine, and w a r m it up to
nomal operating t e m p e r t u r e (the radiator fan
comes on), then make sure the engine stops w h e n
the brake pedal is pressed.
Pedal Free Play
1. W i t h the engine off, inspect the play (A) on the
pedal pad (B) by pushing the brake pedal by hand.
Free play: 0.5—2.0 mm (1/64—1/16 in.)
C/D
2. If the pedal free play is out of specification, adjust
the brake pedal position switch (C) and idle stop
switch (D). If the pedal free play is insufficient, it
may result in brake drag.
NOTE:
• W h e n either the brake pedal position switch or
the idle stop switch needs adjusting, both
switches must be adjusted together to keep their
functions synchronized. A l w a y s adjust the brake
pedal position switch first, then adjust the idle
stop switch; never adjust the switches
independently.
• W h e n the brake pedal is released, the brake
pedal position switch is n o r m a l l y open and the
idle stop switch is n o r m a l l y closed.
8. Check the brake pedal free play.
