Auto Idle Stop System
The auto idle stop system stops the engine automatically w h e n the vehicle comes to a stop to reduce fuel
c o n s u m p t i o n and minimize tailpipe emissions. W h e n the f o l l o w i n g operating conditions are met, the auto idle stop
w i l l occur.
Auto idle stop system operating conditions
Idle stop w i l l occure
• W i t h the vehicle is driven above 7 m p h (12 km/h) in D or D3 position, then decelerates
w i t h the brake pedal pressed (operation speed varies depending on the conditions).
• W h e n the vehicle is driven above 7 m p h (12 km/h) in D or D3 position after restart f r o m
auto idle stop condition, then decelerates w i t h the brake pedal pressed, the engine w i l l
stop (two times only).
Engine does not stop
• W h e n the vehicle stops suddenly by sharp application of the brake pedal.
• W h e n the engine coolant temperature is low.
• W h e n the climate control unit prohibits the engine f r o m s t o p p i n g . *

• W h e n the PCM (A/T system) prohibits the engine f r o m s t o p p i n g /

• W h e n the IMA battery state of charge is low.
• W h e n the IMA battery module temperature is low.
• W h e n the electric load on the 12 V system is high.
• W h e n the accelerator pedal is pressed.
• W h e n ignition switch ON (II) just after that engine starting.
• W h e n w i n d s h i e l d defrost button
• W h e n a fault is detected in a related system. *

* 1: W i t h the ambient temperature at 10 °F ( — 1 3 °C) or below, or 100 °F (38 °C) or more.
* 2: W h e n the ATF temperature is low.
* 3: PGM-FI system, IMA s y s t e m , A/T system, A/C system, etc.
W h e n the f o l l o w i n g engine restart conditions are met, the ECM restarts the engine by d r i v i n g the IMA motor via the
M C M and restarting fuel injection.

• W h e n the brake pedal is released.
• W h e n the select lever is set in the neutral to R, or D3 to 2, 1 position.
• W h e n the accelerator pedal is pressed.
• W h e n the vehicle speed signal is input.
• W h e n the v a c u u m in the brake booster is low.
• W h e n the engine coolant temperature is low.
• W h e n the IMA battery SOC is low.
