Windshield Replacement (cont'd)
8. W i t h a knife, scrape the old adhesive s m o o t h to a
thickness of about 2 m m (0.08 in.) on the bonding
surface around the entire w i n d s h i e l d opening
flange:
• Do not scrape d o w n to the painted surface of the
body; damaged paint w i l l interfere w i t h proper
bonding.
• Remove the rubber d a m and fasteners f r o m the
body.
• Replace the dashboard seal w i t h a new one.
9. Clean the body bonding surface w i t h a sponge
d a m p e n e d in alcohol. After cleaning, keep oil,
grease and water f r o m getting on the clean surface.
10. If the old windshield is to be reinstalled, use a putty
knife to scrape off all of the old adhesive, the
fasteners and the rubber d a m f r o m the w i n d s h i e l d .
Clean the inside face and the edge of the
w i n d s h i e l d w i t h alcohol w h e r e new adhesive is to
be applied. Make sure the b o n d i n g surface is kept
free of water, oil and grease.
11. Attach the upper rubber d a m (A), lower rubber d a m
(B), and clips (C) w i t h adhesive tape to the inside
face of the w i n d s h i e l d (D) as s h o w n :
• Be sure the rubber d a m and clips line up w i t h the
alignment marks (E).
• Be careful not to touch the w i n d s h i e l d where
adhesive will be applied.
Rubber dams adhesive tape:
Thickness 0.16 mm (0.0063 in.)
Width 3.5 mm (0.14 in.)
Clips adhesive tape:
Thickness 0.4 mm (0.016 in.)
Width 10 mm (0.39 in.)
