5B-20 ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS)
TABLE – E EBD WARNING LAMP (BRAKE WARNING LAMP) CHECK (IF
EQUIPPED) – LAMP COMES "ON" STEADY
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
EBD warning lamp (brake warning lamp) is controlled by parking brake switch, brake fluid level switch and ABS
control module/hydraulic unit assembly and EBD warning lamp relay.
INSPECTION
STEP
1
1) Make sure that:
D Parking brake is completely released.
D Brake fluid level is upper than the minimum level.
Are the check results OK?

Does "ABS" warning lamp come on?

1) Disconnect ABS hydraulic unit/control module connec-
tor.
2) Check for proper connection to ABS hydraulic unit/con-
trol module connector at terminals "E116-21".
3) If OK, apply chocks to wheels and select gear in neu-
tral position (P range for A/T).
4) Keep brake pedal depressed and start engine.
Release parking brake.
5) Connect terminal "E116-21" of disconnected connector
to ground using service wire.
Does EBD warning lamp (brake warning lamp) turn off?
ACTION
-1. Main fuse
-2. Ignition switch
-3. Circuit fuse for IG
-4. EBD warning lamp
-5. ABS hydraulic unit / control
module assembly
-6. Diagnosis connector
6-1. Diag. switch terminal
-7. ABS hydraulic unit/
control module connector
of harness
-8. EBD warning lamp relay
YES
Go to step 2.
Release parking
brake completely
and/or replenish
brake fluid.
Perform "TABLE B"
Go to step 3.

Substitute a known-
"GRY/BLK" circuit
good ABS hydraulic
or "BLK/WHT" cir-
unit/control module
cuit between EBD
assembly and re-
warning lamp relay
check.
and dot closure

"RED/BLK" circuit
shorted to ground.
If wire and connec-
tion are OK, re-
place EBD warning
lamp relay.
