CODE NO.21 THROTTLE OPENING SIGNAL CIRCUIT

(THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT OR THROTTLE
OPENING CIRCUIT FAULTY)

Does MIL for electronic fuel injection system turn on?
NO
1. Disconnect TCM couplers with ignition switch OFF
(A/T vehicle only).
2. Check voltage between B14 terminal of suspension
control module and ground with ignition switch ON.
3. Does voltage vary as specified in graph referring to
"OUTPUT SIGNALS OF THROTTLE VALVE OPENING
AND ENGINE COOLANT TEMP." in Section 6E3 while
throttle valve is opened gradually?
NO
1. Disconnect suspension control module, TCM (A/T ve-
hicle only) and ECM couplers with ignition switch OFF.
2. Check resistance between B14 terminal of suspen-
sion control module and body ground.
3. Is it infinity?
YES
1. Connect suspension control module couplers with igni-
tion switch OFF.
2. Turn ON ignition switch and check voltage between B14
terminal of disconnected ECM coupler and body ground.
3. Is it 4 – 5V?
YES
Poor E92-1 (Vehicle with WU TWC) or D16 (Vehicle
without WU TWC) connection of ECM coupler.
If connection is OK, substitute a known-good ECM and
recheck.

Check diagnostic trouble code referring to "DIAG-
NOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHECK" in Section 6-2
or 6E3.
Inspect and repair malfunction area referring to
"DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE FLOW TABLE" in
Section 6-2 or 6E3.
Intermittent trouble or faulty suspension control
module. Recheck referring to "INTERMITTENT
TROUBLE" in Section 0A in this manual.
"O" wire shorted to ground.
"O" wire open or poor B14 connection of suspen-
sion control module coupler.
If wire and connection are OK, substitute a known-
good suspension control module and recheck.
