1B-26 AIR CONDITIONING (OPTIONAL)
1. Manifold gauge set
2. High pressure side (Delivery side hose)
3. Low pressure side (Suction side hose)
A. COMPRESSOR
Inspection
1) Install manifold gauge set, referring to "Troubleshooting pro-
cedure using manifold gauge set" in this section.
2) Run engine at fast idle.
3) Check compressor for the following:
i) High pressure gauge reading is not low and low pressure
gauge reading is not higher than normal.
ii) Metallic sound.
iii) Leakage from shaft seal.
If any of the above checks indicates a defect, repair compres-
sor.
Removal
1) Run engine at idle with air conditioning on for 10 minutes.
2) Disconnect negative (–) cable at battery.
3) Recover refrigerant from refrigeration system using recovery
and recycling equipment.
4) Disconnect magnet clutch lead wire from A/C wire harness.
5) Disconnect suction and discharge flexible hoses from com-
pressor.
6) Remove O-rings from hoses.
NOTE:
Cap open fittings immediately to keep moisture out of
system.
7) Hoist vehicle and remove engine under cover (right).
8) Remove compressor bolts as follow.
For 1.3L and 1.6L Engine models
Loosen compressor drive belt, then remove compressor
mounting bolts.
For 1.8L Engine model
Remove generator belt, then remove compressor bolts. For
removal of generator belt, refer to Section 6B for details.
9) Remove compressor with magnet clutch assembly from its
mounts.
10) Drain oil from compressor, and measure its amount.
The amount of compressor oil removed must be measured
and the same amount of new oil must be added to the system
when reinstalling.
NOTE:
When removing compressor, be careful not to damage
fins of condenser.
