10) Before fixing boot band, insert screwdriver into boot on outer
race side and allow air to enter boot so that air pressure in boot
becomes the same as atmospheric pressure.
11) Fixing boot with boot band, referring to sequence i) to vii) of
Step 4).
Diameter "e" : Approx. 79 mm (3.11 in.)
Diameter "f" : Approx. 29 mm (1.14 in.)
DRIVE SHAFT (EXCEPT 4 A/T MODEL)
1) Apply grease to wheel side joint. Use black grease in tube in-
cluded in wheel side boot set.
2) Install wheel side boot on shaft.
3) Fill up boot inside with grease and then fasten boot with bands.
4) Install dynamic damper on shaft. (If equipped.)
5) Install differential side boot on shaft.
Apply grease to tripod joint. Use yellow grease in tube included
in differential side boot set or differential side joint assembly of
1. Boot
2. Boot hand
spare parts.
6) Drive in spider by using a pipe whose inner diameter is 23 mm
(0.906 in.) or more and outer diameter is 32 mm (1.260 in.) or
less.
Diameter "a" : 23 mm (0.906 in.) or more
Diameter "b" : 32 mm (1.260 in.) or less
3. Pipe
CAUTION:
D To prevent any problem caused by washing solu-
tion, do not wash joint boots and tripod joint ex-
cept its housing.
Degreasing of those parts with cloth is allowed.
D To ensure full performance of joint as designed,
be sure to distinguish between two types of
grease in repair set and apply specified volume to
respective joint, i.e. black grease (130 g tube) to
wheel side joint and yellow one (130 g tube) to tri-
pod joint.
D Band each boot band against forward rotation.
D Do not squeeze or distort boot when fastening it
with bands.
Distorted boot caused by squeezing air may re-
duce its durability.
