P a s s e n g e r ' s A i r M i x C o n t r o l M o t o r
R e p l a c e m e n t
1. Open the glove box. Remove the damper f r o m the
glove box, then release the glove box stops and let
the glove box hang d o w n (see page 20-70).
2. Remove the relays (A) f r o m the bracket.

3. Disconnect the connectors (A) f r o m the evaporator
t e m p e r a t u r e sensor and the passenger's air m i x
control motor. Remove the self-tapping screws and
the passenger's air m i x control m o t o r (B) f r o m the
heater unit.
Install the motor in the reverse order of removal.
Make sure the pin on the m o t o r is properly
engaged w i t h the linkage. After installation, make
sure the m o t o r runs smoothly.
M o d e C o n t r o l M o t o r T e s t
NOTE: Before testing, check for HVAC DTCs (see page
21-9).
1 Disconnect the 7P connector f r o m the m o d e control
motor.
NOTICE
Incorrectly applying power and g r o u n d to
the mode control motor will damage it.
Follow the instructions carefully.
Connect battery power to the No. 1 terminal of the
m o d e control motor, and g r o u n d the No. 2
t e r m i n a l ; the mode control motor should run
s m o o t h l y , and stop at Defrost. If it doesn't, reverse
the connections; the mode control m o t o r should
run s m o o t h l y , and stop at Vent. W h e n the mode
control motor stops r u n n i n g , disconnect battery
power immediately.
MODE CONTROL MOTOR
3. If the m o d e control motor did not run in step 2,
remove it, then check the m o d e control linkage and
doors for s m o o t h m o v e m e n t .
• If the linkage and doors m o v e smoothly, replace
the m o d e control motor (see page 21-84).
• If the linkage or doors stick or bind, repair t h e m
as needed.
• If the mode control m o t o r runs s m o o t h l y , go to
step 4.
4. Use a digital multimeter w i t h an output of 1 m A or
less at the 20 kQ range. W i t h the m o d e control
m o t o r running as in step 2, check for continuity
between the No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 terminals and the
No. 7 terminal individually. There should be
continuity for a m o m e n t at each terminal as the
m o t o r moves past the switch's t e r m i n a l .
5. If there is no continuity for a m o m e n t at each
t e r m i n a l , replace the mode control motor (see page
21-84).
