Testing and Repairs
• Do not use wires or harnesses w i t h broken insulation.
Replace t h e m or repair t h e m by w r a p p i n g the break
w i t h electrical tape.
• After installing parts, make sure that no wires are
pinched u n d e r t h e m .
• W h e n using electrical test equipment, f o l l o w the
manufacturer's instructions and those described in
this manual.
• If possible, insert the probe of the tester f r o m the wire
side (except w a t e r p r o o f connector).
• Use back probe adaptor 07TAZ-001020A.
Five-step Troubleshooting
1. Verify The Complaint
Turn on all the c o m p o n e n t s in the p r o b l e m circuit
to verify the customer complaint. Note the
s y m p t o m s . Do not begin disassembly or testing
until you have narrowed d o w n the p r o b l e m area.
2. Analyze The Schematic
Look up the schematic for the p r o b l e m circuit.
Determine h o w the circuit is supposed to w o r k by
tracing the current paths f r o m the power feed
t h r o u g h the circuit c o m p o n e n t s to g r o u n d . If
several circuits fail at the same t i m e , the fuse or
g r o u n d is a likely cause.
Based on the s y m p t o m s and your understanding of
the circuit operation, identify one or more possible
causes of the p r o b l e m .
3. Isolate The Problem By Testing The Circuit
Make circuit tests to check the diagnosis you made
in step 2. Keep in m i n d that a logical, simple
procedure is the key to efficient troubleshooting.
Test for the most likely cause of failure first. Try to
make tests at points that are easily accessible.
4. Fix The Problem
Once the specific problem is identified, make the
repair. Be sure to use proper tools and safe
procedures.
5. Make Sure The Circuit W o r k s
Turn on ail components in the repaired circuit in all
modes to make sure y o u ' v e fixed the entire
p r o b l e m . If the problem was a b l o w n fuse, be sure
to test all of the circuits on the fuse. Make sure no
new problems turn up and the original problem
does not recur.
• Refer to the instructions in the Honda Terminal Kit for
identification and replacement of connector terminals.
