A / C C o m p r e s s o r C l u t c h O v e r h a u l
Special Tools Required
A/C clutch holder, Robinair 10204 or Kent-Moore
J37872, or Honda Tool and Equipment KMT-J33939,
c o m m e r c i a l l y available
1. Remove the center nut (A) w h i l e holding the
armature plate w i t h a commercially available A/C
clutch holder (B).

2. Remove the armature plate (A) and shim(s) (B),
taking care not to lose the shim(s). If the clutch
needs adjustment, increase or decrease the
n u m b e r and thickness of shims as necessary, then
reinstall the armature plate, and recheck its
clearance (see page 21-94).
NOTE: The shims are available in four thicknesses:
0.1 m m , 0.2 m m , 0.4 m m , and 0.5 m m .

3. If y o u are replacing the field coil, remove the snap
ring (A) w i t h snap ring pliers, then remove the rotor
pulley (B). Be careful not to damage the rotor pulley
and A/C compressor.
4. Remove the bolts and holders (A), then disconnect
the t h e r m a l protector connectors (B). Remove the
bolt f r o m the field coil g r o u n d t e r m i n a l . Remove
the snap ring (C) w i t h snap ring pliers, then remove
the field coil (D). Be careful not to damage the field
coil and A/C compressor.
5. Reassemble the clutch in the reverse order of
disassembly, and note these items:
• Install the field coil w i t h the w i r e side facing
d o w n , and align the boss on the field coil w i t h the
hole in the compressor.
• Clean the rotor pulley and A/C compressor
sliding surfaces w i t h contact cleaner or other
non-petroleum solvent.
• Install new snap rings, note the installation
direction, and make sure they are fully seated in
the groove.
• Make sure that the rotor pulley turns s m o o t h l y
after it's reassembled.
• Route and clamp the wires properly or they can
be damaged by the rotor pulley.
