Security Alarm System
The security alarm system is a r m e d automatically after the doors, h o o d , and trunk are closed and locked. For the
system to a r m , the ignition switch must be off, the key must be r e m o v e d , and the MICU must receive signals that the
doors, h o o d , trunk are closed and locked. The alarm can be disarmed at any t i m e by unlocking the driver's door w i t h
the key or pressing the UNLOCK button on the remote transmitter.
W h e n everything is closed and locked, the only inputs that are g r o u n d e d , and have 0 V, are the driver's door lock knob
switch (LOCK position), and the integrated audio-HVAC display m o d u l e . In other w o r d s , all of the other switches are
open, and have about 5 V w i t h system awake and 1 V in sleep m o d e , including the key cylinder switches. The security
indicator in the gauge control m o d u l e begins to flash immediately after the vehicle is completely closed and locked,
and 15 seconds later, the security system arms and the security indicator flashes on for a shorter a m o u n t of t i m e than
before. If the security indicator does not flash, the system is not a r m i n g . A beep sounds and parking lights flash to
c o n f i r m the security alarm system is a r m e d if the LOCK button is pressed a second t i m e w i t h i n 5 seconds.
If one of the switches is misadjusted or shorted internally, or there is a short in the circuit, the security system w i l l not
a r m . As long as the control unit continues to receive a g r o u n d signal (0 V), it senses that the vehicle is not closed and
locked, and the system w i l l not a r m . A switch that is slightly misadjusted can cause the alarm to sound for no apparent
reason. In this case, a significant change in outside air temperature, the vibration of a passing truck, or someone
b u m p i n g into the vehicle could cause the alarm to sound. There is no glass breakage or m o t i o n detector feature.
If anything is opened or i m p r o p e r l y unlocked after the system is a r m e d , the control unit receives a g r o u n d signal f r o m
that switch, and the 1 —5 V reference drops to 0 V. If the integrated audio-HVAC display m o d u l e is disconnected, the
input loses its g r o u n d , and the input voltage goes to 1 —5 V. The system sounds the alarm w h e n any of these occur:
• A door or the trunk is forced open
• A door is unlocked w i t h o u t using the key or the remote transmitter
• The hood is opened
• The audio-HVAC display m o d u l e is disconnected
• The remote panic is operated
W h e n the system sounds the a l a r m , the horns sound and the exterior lights flash for 2 minutes. The alarm can be
stopped at any time by unlocking the driver's door w i t h the key or by pressing any button on the remote transmitter.
Panic Mode
The panic mode sounds the alarm in order to attract attention. W h e n the PANIC button on the remote transmitter is
pressed and held for 2 seconds, the alarm sounds and the exterior lights flash for about 20 seconds.
The panic mode can be cancelled at anytime by pressing any button on the remote transmitter or by t u r n i n g the
ignition switch ON (II). The panic m o d e w i l l not function if the ignition switch is ON (II).
