Introduction
To populate the TR-101-based sub-option 1 field Shelf_ID, the REMOTEID value from the DHCPRELAY
AGENT provisioning is used. Sub-option 2 can now be populated with the interface description if one has been
set.
Since the SBx3112 can support option 82 in both binary and text format, sub-option 2 -- which contained the
DHCP agent instance of the remote-id -- has a value per interface such as the interface description. Since the
interface description may contain user information, another per-interface descriptive field is created to contain
other data like account information or contact numbers. This new per-interface field is called the interface
REMOTEID. This field is data-filled therefore with the SET INTERFACE command.

7.2.7 Configuring DHCP Relay

7.2.8 Default Configuration
When an SBx3112 switch is initially booted up, DHCP Relay will be configured as follows:
There is one DHCP Relay instance called MAIN. All interfaces are enabled for MAIN, and no VLANs are
associated with MAIN.
MAIN cannot be renamed or deleted. (This is true even if the user subsequently disassociates all VLANs
with MAIN.)
The per-interface IP Filters will be disabled (off)
The per-interface Auto-Age status will be disabled (off)
The per-interface counters will be cleared (all 0).
7.2.9 Restrictions and Limitations
The DHCP Relay feature applies to all cards currently supported.
Ensure that DHCP is enabled on the network (upstream) interfaces. Otherwise, DHCP will not work.
7.2.10 Feature Interactions
System Recovery - The configuration settings are persisted in the SBx3112 database. During system recov-
ery, these settings are applied to the associated port/interface like any other configuration setting.
Redundant Operation - The configuration settings identified by this document are mirrored between the
CFCs in a duplex configuration.
System Upgrades - The configuration settings survive over upgrades from one release to the next.
7.2.11 Configuration Procedure
A typical DHCP Relay configuration procedure involves the following steps:
Create VLANs
