E. CALL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU) CARD
4.54 The CPU card contains the main controlling microprocessor and associated control
logic and memory circuits. It is under the control of a program stored in flash memory, which
is activated when the system is powered up. The following information is described in this sec-
tion:
CPU128 Card (see below)

for details.
CPU128 Card
4.55 The CPU/MEM card (a.k.a. CPU 112) has been replaced by the CPU128 card – part no.
550.2010 [PB2590 in Europe]. Instead of the pre-programmed ROMs used on the CPU/MEM
card, the CPU128 card employs flash memory circuitry. This technology allows you to install
and upgrade system software through the programming PC, rather than having to replace the
ROMs on the card.

later.
4.56 The CPU128 card can be used only in single-chassis or dual-chassis systems.
4.57 If any T1 or T1/E1/PRI Cards are to be installed in an equipment chassis using the
CPU128 card configuration, a single T1 or T1/E1/PRI Network Clock Card (NCC) must also
be installed. Then, instead of using the clock circuitry on the CPU card, the NCC becomes the
clock for the entire system. The NCC provides the smooth, error-free clock transitions required
for T1 or T1/E1/PRI applications. (See
PRI or E1/PRI card with the CPU128.
NOTE:
nario (e.g., multiple ACD groups), along with OAI in use (e.g., Call Center type of application), it
may be necessary to upgrade to a larger CPU256 card. The CPU256 enhances system perfor-
mance.
4.58 CPU128 with Memory Daughter Card: The CPU128 card comes equipped with a
memory daughter card (part no. 550.2017) to support increased system features. A daughter
card adds extra RAM to the existing CPU128 card. Additional capacity enables all available
features on a system to function properly. This card replaces an existing CPU128 (part no.
550.2015).
