The Inter-Tel system supports ISDN Basic Rate trunks.
DID trunk interface on a Single-Line Adapter (SLA): Each SLA can be configured
to support up to two DID trunk interfaces [DID trunk is not applicable to Europe].
10.5 Because loop start trunks frequently do not provide supervision, unsupervised trunk-to-
trunk calls (such as unsupervised conferences and forward to an outside number), are limited
by the Unsupervised CO timer. When this timer expires, the call recalls the primary attendant
who can determine whether the trunks are still in use or if the call should be disconnected. (See

trunks, this timer is not needed as they supply reliable disconnection signals.

Standard T1 Trunks
10.6 The term "T1" refers to a specific digital method of transmitting voice and data; it is the
basic 24-channel time-division multiplex, pulse code modulation system used in the United
States. Because each T1 trunk actually consists of 24 individual circuits (or channels) multi-
plexed together, it is often less expensive to purchase a single T1 trunk than it is to purchase
multiple individual trunks.
10.7 T1 trunks can be programmed to provide the following services:
Loop-Start Interface: Loop-start T1 trunks can provide the same services as regular
loop-start trunks, including Caller-ID. See
Ground-Start Interface: Calls can be placed and received using ground-start T1
trunks.
Direct Inward Dialing (DID) Interface: Direct inward dialing (DID) allows an outside
party to dial into the system without attendant intervention. See
information on DID.
E&M Interface: E&M trunks, also called "tie" lines, are special trunks that tie two dis-
tant telephone systems together. They allow the users of either telephone system access
to the users and resources of the other telephone system. See
mation on E&M trunks.
Off-Premises Extensions (OPX): Off-premises extensions are remote single-line
DTMF sets that are connected to the T1 or T1/E1 card through telephone company
OPX circuits (or customer-provided circuits).
10.8 Fractional T1 (FT1), which uses fewer than the standard 24 circuits, can be used on the
Inter-Tel system. If FT1 is used, the unused circuits of the T1 or T1/E1 card must be
unequipped.
