IP Devices Support
4.126 To support the IP phones and SLA, the slot in the equipment chassis that is used by the
IPC or the v1.x firmware IPRC must be programmed as a DKSC-16 Card. (The "Amps
Required" field shows that the card requires the 0.64 amps needed by a DKSC. However, an
IPC or IPRC only requires 0.34 amps.) If using a v8.1 or later firmware IPRC, the slot is pro-
grammed as an IPRC (32 Device), even if the daughter card is not installed.
4.127 If using an IPC, the first eight circuits must be programmed according to the type of
equipment you are connecting. The remaining eight circuits are unused, but can be pro-
grammed as "phantom" extensions in the phone system. If using a v1.x firmware IPRC, you
can program eight or 16 circuits, depending on the PAL. Program circuits as "Keyset" if an IP
PhonePlus, Model 8660 Phone, or IP SoftPhone is connected without loop-start access. Pro-
gram circuits as "Single-Port LSA" if an MGCP gateway is connected. Program the circuits as
"Dual Single-Line" for an IP SLA (even though the IP SLA supports only one single-line set).
If a daughter card is installed, you can program up to 32 circuits, depending on the PAL.
4.128 If using a v8.x firmware IPRC, you can program up to 16 (32 with a daughter card) IP
devices, including IP phones, IP single-line adapters (SLAs), and Media Gateway Control Pro-
tocol (MGCP) gateways and endpoints. The v8.x firmware IPRC also supports the multi-proto-
col endpoints, such as the Model 8600, which can use either Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
or Inter-Tel Protocol (ITP). To terminate a multi-protocol endpoint configured to use SIP, the
latest version of SIP Server is required.
4.129 If using a v9.0.0 firmware IPRC, you can program up to 32 IP devices (16 IP devices
without an IPRC daughter card), MGCP trunks, SIP trunks, multi-protocol devices, Model
8602 IP softphone, or IP networking ports. The v9.0.0 firmware supports all of the Inter-Tel
hard and soft IP endpoints, including the multi-protocol endpoints running in ITP mode or SIP
mode.
4.130 To support more than 16 devices, the IPRC requires the IPRC daughter card and v8.1
firmware. Also, you must first change enable the voice resource for that port. By default, all
ports are set to "Out of Service." After you have enabled the voice resources, you can program
the devices. For all IP devices except the IP SLA, program the circuit as "IP Phone;" for IP
SLAs, program the circuits as "IP SLA;" for MGCP gateways and endpoints, program the cir-
cuits as "MGCP Gateway and Endpoint" or "MGCP Endpoint."
The IP SoftPhone requires v1.x firmware and is not supported by IPRCs that have v8.x or
later firmware. Other IP endpoints, such as the Model 8660 Phone, however, require the 8.x
or later IPRCs to support the features. For these reasons, Inter-Tel recommends that you do
not connect IP SoftPhones and other IP endpoints to the same IPRC. If you do, you may
lose feature or phone functionality.
4.131 Each IP Card (IPC) can support up to eight IP devices; each v1.x firmware device IPRC
can support up to 16 IP devices; and each v8.1 or later firmware IPRC can support up to 32
devices (with the daughter card).
