C. FEATURE KEYS
Hot Keypad Keys vs. SPCL Key Required for Feature Code Entry Flag
12.45 Unless programmed to use the Special button
ture code, all phones have "hot" keypad buttons that allow dialing of feature codes, extension
numbers, and trunk access codes without pressing the Special button or lifting the handset. As
soon as a keypad digit is pressed, the digit is recognized by the phone system.
12.46 There is a system-wide option called "SPCL Key Required For Feature Code Entry"
that, if enabled, requires phone users to always press the Special button before entering a fea-
ture code.
12.47 Regardless of programming, if a phone user presses the Special button while on hook,
the display shows ENTER FEATURE CODE. The user can enter the desired code or press a
menu button.
Keymaps
12.48 A keymap group determines the layout of the buttons for all the stations assigned to that
group. If any of the buttons in the keymap group are user-programmable or undefined, they can
be changed by the station user. There can be up to 250 different keyset keymap groups (when
using a 1024 or ATM system). Each node contains its own keymap programming. See PRO-
GRAMMING,
12.49 Each phone is assigned a standard keymap and can also have an alternate keymap. See
page 5-137
12.50 When the system is in the default state, all phones are assigned to the default Keyset
Keymap 1. There are no individual pre-programmed keymaps for each of the specific phone
types. (Previous software had an Executive/Standard map and a Basic map. If you convert
from a previous version to the current version, those keymaps will be preserved.) Keymap #1
also acts as the template for new keymaps, regardless of the phone type. For example, if key-
map #1 is an Executive Display keymap with the default Hold button programmed as a For-
ward button, any newly created keymaps that have a Hold button, even Standard Display
keymaps, will reflect this change. Because keymap #1 is used as a template, do not change this
keymap. The DSS keymaps do not use a template.
12.51 As part of the installation procedure, the installer must make sure the phone buttons are
labeled to match their functions.
12.52 The buttons in each keymap can be assigned the following functions:

for information about switching between standard and alternate keymaps.
Accept Key: (This button type is not required for digital phones. It is intended for ana-
log phone use.) This button is used to accept an entry when using numeric mode. (Digi-
tal phones use the Volume button, by pressing both ends at once.)
Cancel Key: No further programming is necessary. This button will be used to cancel a
feature or cancel an entry when in numeric mode.
