BRS and BRU Physical Characteristics
4.219 Both the BRS and BRU cards have the following characteristics, with the exception of
the external power connector and jumpers, only present on the BRS card:
Amphenol-type Connector: Each card has a 50-pin Ampheno1-type connector that
allows the installer to connect all eight BRI ports.
LED Indicators: Each card has five LEDs:
Make-Busy Switch: This switch allows the installer to busy out all BRI ports on the
card. Pressing the switch lights the yellow Make-Busy LED and busy out all circuits
that are not in use. The circuits that are in use are busied out as soon as the users hang
up. When the circuits are all busied out, the LED flashes slowly, the Circuit-Busy LED
is unlit. Now the card can be removed from the slot. If the card is not fully busied out
and removed within a certain time (the default setting is one minute), the card returns to
normal status and the Make-Busy LED flashes rapidly until the switch is released.
Serial Port Jack: Each card has an RS232 port to enable the installer to perform diag-
nostics on the card and to upload new firmware. The pinout of the RS232 port is as fol-
lows:
BRS External Power Connector: This connector is present only on the BRS card. It
allows an auxiliary power supply to be connected to the card. This allows the card to
support devices which require line power via the BRS port. In order for the BRS card to
provide line power, an Inter-Tel adapter cable (part number 813.1740, included with the
BRS card) and an Inter-Tel -48VDC power supply – part number 550.0114 [PS 2743 in
Europe] are connected to the card. See
NOTE:
External Power Connector. Therefore, this is not recommended in Europe.
