Mini-DSS
13.38 The Mini-DSS is an optional unit that provides 16 additional user-programmable but-
tons and connects directly to the Model 8660, 8560, or 8520 Phones. Because the Mini-DSS
does not utilize any of the resources required by a DSS/BLF, a phone can have one Mini-DSS
and up to four DSS/BLF Units.
NOTE:
13.39 Mini-DSS Units are physically attached to a special cable pin connector on Model 8520
or Model 8560 Phones. Because the Mini-DSS Units draw power from the phone, external AC
transformers are not required. In addition, separate circuits on the DKSC-16 or DKSC-16+ are
not required.
13.40 Unpack and inspect the Mini-DSS Unit before installing it.

Lift and remove the original faceplate using the notch on the faceplate edge of the
phone. (The original faceplate can be returned to Inter-Tel for recycling.)
Remove the original phone facemats and set them aside for later use.
Turn the phone over so that the Mini-DSS access panels located on the bottom of the
phone are accessible. (The recess beneath the top access panel houses the pin connector
for the Mini-DSS cable.)
Remove the screws from the access panels and set them aside for later use.
Remove the access panels from the phone. (The phone access panels can be returned to
Inter-Tel for recycling.)
Turn the Mini-DSS over and pull a section of ribbon cable measuring 1¾ inches (4.5
cm) from the unit.
NOTE:
Avoid removing more cable than the recommended 1¾ inches (4.5 cm). The
excess cable may be difficult to replace in the Mini-DSS.
Plug the Mini-DSS cable into the pin connector on the phone.
Guide the "arms" of the Mini-DSS into the access panel slots (see
Secure the Mini-DSS unit to the phone by replacing and tightening the screws removed
from the access panels in step 5.
Turn the phone (and attached Mini-DSS) over. Replace the original facemats on the
phone and place the Mini-DSS facemats on the Mini-DSS unit.
Snap the Mini-DSS faceplate into place covering the facemats (see
