OS/2-BASED EMBEDDED VOICE MAIL CARD (EVMC)
4.224 The Embedded Voice Mail Card (EVMC) was recently modified. Except where noted,
the old EVMC and the newer EVMC are identical.
4.225 The EVMC comes equipped with a single DSPM card to provide a four-port OS/2- or
Linux-based voice mail unit on a single circuit card. It is typically installed in slot 7 of the
equipment chassis and it derives power from the chassis backplane.
4.226 The EVMC can have an additional DSPM card to support an additional four voice mail
ports. The 2.0 Gigabyte hard drive on the EVMC supports up to 180 hours of voice messages.
4.227 The PAL (U23) on the EVMC determines how many mailboxes it supports (32, 64, or
200 mailboxes). Standard mailboxes and networking mailboxes (i.e., AMIS mailboxes) are
both included when determining the total number supported. The 32- and 64-mailbox PALs
can be used only with the CPC64 or CPU64. The 200-mailbox PAL can be used with any CPC
or CPU, if the system is running software version 5.270 or later. If you exceed the supported
mailbox limit, users receive the "mailbox full" message when they try to leave a message in
any mailbox. Currently, the 4-port EVMC is shipped with the 32-mailbox PAL.
4.228 Timeslots for the EVMC are supplied through the AIC ribbon cable. For example, the
Options Card (OPC) could possibly need more than 16 time slots, depending on the number of
Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) installed on the card. The OPC timeslots do not decrease the
number of timeslots or ports provided by the CPU64 configuration.
4.229 The EVMC supports AMIS networking and database saves to a zip or floppy drive. It
does not support Fax-On-Demand, Unified Messaging, TTS, or ASR.
4.230 The parallel port on the EVMC can be used, like the Voice Processing system parallel
port, for performing save and restore with a Zip drive. You can use an optional Zip Drive
Backup Kit (828.1460) that contains an Iomega™ Zip Drive, Zip disks, a Save Boot floppy
disk, and a Restore Boot floppy disk. To use this kit you also need an external floppy drive,
which is available in the Floppy Drive Kit (828.1486).
4.231 There are connectors on the EVMC for a VGA monitor and a keyboard (there is a con-
nector for a mouse, but it is not supported in this EVMC version).
4.232 The old EVMC has two RS232 serial ports, however, only the first RS232 port is opera-
tional at this time. The RS232 interface consists of a standard, two-pair, reversing, mod-to-mod
line cord. A reversing line cord can be identified by examining the modular plug connectors
side-by-side as shown below.
4.233 The newer EVMC has one RS232 serial port and one DB9 serial port. The RS232 inter-
face functions the same as it does on the old EVMC. The DB9 serial port provides a connec-
tion for Inside Track (not applicable to European systems).

If using the DB9 port, an SMDR buffer box is not required.
