13. STATION INSTALLATION

NOTE:
earlier Installation and Maintenance Manual.
13.1 Digital phones (and any attached DSS/BLF Units) are connected to Digital Keyset
Cards (DKSCs) and/or 16-Port Digital Keyset Cards (DKSC-16s). Analog phones are con-
nected to Analog Keyset Cards (AKSCs). Executone IDS and Wave phones are connected to
Executone Keyset Cards (EKSCs). Single-line DTMF or pulse-tone sets and playback devices
are connected to Single-Line Cards (SLCs) or 16-Port Single-Line Cards (SLC-16s), or they
can be connected to Single-Line Adapters, which are in turn connected to available DKSC/
DKSC-16 circuits. (Version 2.x or later software is required for pulse-tone sets.)
Connecting a station instrument to the wrong type of station card can damage both the
instrument and the card.
A. DIGITAL PHONE INSTALLATION
The digital phones are proprietary phones and are to be used only with Inter-Tel Phone sys-
tems.
13.2 Before installing the digital phones, unpack each one and check for damage. If items
are damaged or missing, contact Customer Support. Each phone should have the following:

One six-foot, three-pair line cord
One handset
One four-conductor coiled handset cord
Slide-out directory card (not available on Model 8500, 8520, or 8560 Phones)
Extra feature key templates
Before mounting the modular jack (line jack unit) assembly and connecting the phone,
measure the voltage on the YELLOW terminal of the modular jack (line jack unit)
assembly with respect to the BLACK terminal. (The "common" probe of the voltmeter
is placed on the BLACK terminal.) It must measure +24VDC (+2.0VDC). If a negative
voltage is measured, check the cabling for a reversed pair.
If tip and ring are reversed, the phone does not function.
Mount the modular jack (line jack unit) assembly on the wall.
Attach the coiled handset cord to the handset and to the handset jack on the bottom of
the phone. Place the handset on hook.
