12. LICENSES
12.1 Software licensing controls device capacity and feature availability on the Axxess sys-
tem. Axxess platforms are delivered without software licensing. Licenses are generated and
downloaded from the Inter-Tel License Management Center (LMC) Web site and then loaded
onto the platforms before installing the system. By default, unlicensed platforms can be pro-
grammed with the capabilities of fully provisioned systems. However, if the applicable licenses
are not provided and authenticated within four hours, the system invokes a reset.
12.2 If DB Programming connects to a system with a valid software license, you cannot
restore a database that would invalidate the license. If you need to change the product type,
you must first load a new software license through DB Programming. For details, see the PRO-
GRAMMING chapter.
12.3 DB Programming has a folder called "Software License." This folder displays the
licenses currently uploaded to the system. The features common to all licenses are displayed in
this folder along with the value for each feature according to the current software license. See
page 6-97
A. IP GATEWAY TRUNK LICENSING
12.4 The system requires "IP Gateway Trunk License" for the use of the following two types
of IP gateway trunks. One license is required for each trunk to be used.
Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP)
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
B. PREMIUM FEATURE LICENSING
12.5 Premium features, which customers can purchase to enhance their systems, are con-
trolled by software licensing through the Inter-Tel License Management Center (LMC). This
section discusses the process used for licensing premium features and the storage of multiple
licenses on a system.
General
12.6 Because features are controlled through licensing, the system database cannot be
restored with premium features that have not been licensed by Inter-Tel, Inc. If an attempt is
made to restore a database that has more premium features than the software license reflects, a
warning message appears before the Restore command is executed. When this message dis-
plays, the Restore action must be cancelled. For details, see
12.7 Because the software license determines the premium features that can be enabled,
changes cannot be made directly in DB Programming. The process to add premium features
involves purchasing the license, building the licence from the LMC, generating the license,
downloading it to the field PC, and installing it in the system from the PC through DB Pro-
gramming. For complete procedural instructions, see "Software License Upload" on
45.
