MANUAL VERSION 11.0 – May 2008
E1/PRI Cards (E1/PRIs)
2
NOTE:
E1/PRI cards are applicable to European systems only.
4.175 The E1C Card requires a PRI Daughter Card to interface with an ISDN Primary Rate
Interface (PRI) trunk. Also, to work properly with system version 4.0 and higher system soft-
ware, E1C/PRIs must have a hardware revision level 2.G or later.
4.176 The firmware for the E1C/PRI Card resides in EPROMs (located at U4 and U5) and
needs to be compatible with the version of system software in which it is being used. For ver-
sion 5.2, use part numbers 827.9067 (U4) and 827.9068 (U5), which can also be obtained in
the SW206 upgrade kit.
4.177 The E1C/PRI Card supports programmable gain control (as described on
page
6-257)
for the new versions of system software that support programmable gain control.
4.178 E1/PRI Cards Specifications
4.179 Each E1/PRI trunk provides the system with a digital interface that delivers 30 bearer
channels (B-Channels), one signaling channel, and one synchronization channel. Each channel
operates at a rate of 64,000 bits per second (bps) for a total bandwidth of 2.048 megabits per
second.
4.180 Currently, the E1/PRI Cards support Euro-ISDN Net5. This specification is also
referred to as ITU-T Recommendation I.421, although it is actually ETS 300-156. The layer 3
signaling is normally called ITU-T Recommendation Q.931 but is actually ETS 300-102. The
ITU (International Telecommunication Union) is an international organization that coordinates
global telecom networks and services and publishes telecommunication technology, regulatory
and standards information. Recommendations I.421 and Q.931 are published by the ITU-T
(Telecommunication Standardization Sector of the ITU). The ETS specifications are published
by the European Telecom Standards Institute.
4.181 The system utilizes CLIP and DDI as presented by these services and allows routing to
be based on either or a combination of both.
4.182 Currently ISDN voice services are the only ones supported. In the future, ISDN data
and video services may be supported.
4.183 The information that is programmed specific to each circuit (e.g., each of the 30 chan-
nels) on the E1/PRI Card includes the Circuit Type, which can be programmed as B-Channel
or None. See PROGRAMMING,
page
6-126.
4.184 The E1 circuits are assigned hardware address numbers according to the card's slot in
the equipment cabinet and the location of the circuit on the card. For example, E1 circuit
6.1.21 is the 21st circuit on the 6th card, an E1/PRI, installed in the equipment cabinet.
4.185 Each PRI trunk must be configured for the proper switch type of service. See
page 5-55
for more information. The system is designed to support only PRI Net5 and Private Network-
ing switch types. No other switch types are currently supported by the system.
4.186 The system can support up to eight E1/PRI cards for system version 5.1 or higher. Older
versions support up to four E1/PRI cards.
