INTER-TEL
AXXESS
MANUAL VERSION 11.0 – May 2008
Message Lamp
5.17 Model 8500, 8520, and 8560 Phones are equipped with a Message Lamp, located in the
2
upper-right corner of the phones. By default, this lamp is programmed to indicate when a mes-
sage is waiting. You can, however, program this lamp for a different feature using the keymap
in DB Programming (see
page 6-308
for details). If you change the feature associated with this
lamp, the lamp flashes when the feature is active. For example, if you program the lamp for
Hold, the lamp flashes whenever a call is held at the station.
NOTE:
Version 7.0 or later system software is required to support the Message Lamp feature
for the Model 8500, 8520, and 8560 Phones.
Electret Circuitry
5.18 Inter-Tel phones and handsets have been designed using "electret" microphone cir-
cuitry, rather than the "dynamic" microphone circuitry used on many previous Inter-Tel phone
models. Electret phones and handsets are not electrically compatible with dynamic phones and
handsets.
5.19 If a dynamic handset is attached to an electret phone, the handset transmit levels are
noticeably lower. If an electret handset is attached to a dynamic phone, the handset does not
transmit. (In both cases, neither the phone nor the handset is damaged.)
5.20 Electret phones can be identified by the manufacturer's label on the bottom of the
phone. Electret handsets can be identified by the "E1" embossed in the recess for the wall-
mount hook (near the receiver).
Optional Headsets
5.21 For the Executive Display, Professional Display, Standard Display, Associate Display,
Axxess Basic Digital, Eclipse Basic Digital, and Model 8500 Phones, a headset may be
attached to any phone by unplugging the handset from the handset jack on the base of the
phone, plugging the headset into the handset jack, and entering a feature code to enable the
headset. The Speaker button, which is used to turn the headset on and off, is lit when placing
and receiving calls and unlit when the headset is not in use. The phones are compatible with
industry-standard, four-conductor, modular headsets that have electret microphones. See
page 3-188
for installation instructions.
5.22 The Model 8520 and 8560 Phones have a dedicated headset jack on the back of the
phone. This allows the phone to have a headset and handset plugged in simultaneously. The
headset, however, must still be enabled using the feature code. Like the Executive Display,
Professional Display, Standard Display, Associate Display, Axxess Basic Digital, and Eclipse
Basic Digital Phones, the Speaker button on the Model 8520 and 8560 Phones is used to turn
the headset on and off and to indicate when the headset is not in use. In addition, the hook-
switch is enabled even when the headset is turned on. This allows the user to answer a call with
the handset without having to disable the headset.
NOTE:
Version 7.0 or later software is required to use the dedicated headset jack on the
Model 8520 and 8560 Phones. If using any of these phones on a system that is running soft-
ware versions 3.0-6.x, you must plug the headset into the handset jack.
