5.40 DSS/BLF Units are physically attached to the RS232 ports on Executive Display, Pro-
fessional Display, Standard Display, Associate Display, Model 8520, or Model 8560 Phones
equipped with PC Data Port Modules (PCDPMs). Although the PCDPMs for the Model 8520
and 8560 Phones are different from the PCDPMs for the Executive Display, Professional Dis-
play, Associate Display, and Standard Display Phones, the DSS/BLF Units work with either
PCDPM. For example, you can attach a 60-key DSS/BLF Unit to a Model 8520 or 8560
Phone.
5.41 The DSS/BLF Units are powered by their own AC transformers and do not require a
DKSC or DKSC-16 circuit that is separate from the phone's circuit. If desired, all 20 units can
be connected to Executive Display, Professional Display, Standard Display, Associate Display,
Model 8520, or Model 8560 Phones installed on the same Digital Keyset Card.

5.43 As stated earlier, each single DSS/BLF Unit provides one-button access to up to 50 or
60 extension numbers, trunks, features, or other resources. The numbers programmed in the
buttons can be station extension numbers, hunt group numbers, trunk access codes, or feature
codes. The layout of the buttons and the numbers they access are assigned using one of up to
20 keymaps in DB Programming. The intercom number/button assignments of each keymap
are programmed in four lists, pages 1-4. For example, single DSS/BLF Units are assigned page
1 of the desired keymap, tandem units are assigned two pages of the desired keymap (page 1
for the first unit and page 2 for the second unit), and so on.
5.44 Together, the lamps in the buttons create a busy lamp field that indicates the status of
each station, hunt group, or other feature/resource assigned to the buttons. If assigned to a sta-
tion, the LED indicator in the button is solidly lit when the associated station is busy or
unplugged, flashes slowly when the station is in do-not-disturb, flashes rapidly when the sta-
tion has a call ringing in, or flutters continuously if the station is causing a STATION OFF-
HOOK system alarm. If assigned to a hunt group, the LED indicator is solidly lit when all sta-
tions in the hunt group are unavailable (busy, in do-not-disturb, or removed from the hunt
group), and it rapidly flashes when a call is camped on to a hunt group. If assigned to a feature
or resource, the LED indicator is lit to show busy status and unlit to show idle status.

The presence of a Mini-DSS does not affect the number of DSS/BLF Units that you
