NOTE:
mum operating temperature (as stated above). Therefore, when installing the chassis
and station instruments, allow a sufficient margin for error in case of air conditioning fail-
ure, routine maintenance, plant shutdown, etc. As a general rule, if conditions are suit-
able for office personnel, they are also suitable for all equipment and station instrument
operation. A properly controlled environment helps to extend the operating life of the
equipment.
From UL 1459, a product safety specification governing telephone equipment:
•
Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
•
Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for
wet locations.
•
Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been
disconnected at the network interface.
•
Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
B. ASSEMBLE THE NECESSARY TOOLS AND SUPPLIES
•
Digital and Executone
cable to run from the MDF to all station instruments and four-conductor modular jack
(line jack unit) assemblies for all station instruments, including phones, single-line
DTMF or pulse-tone sets, and playback devices (version 2.x or later is required for
pulse-tone sets). (For exceptions, see the NOTE following
NOTE:
•
Multi-protocol endpoints operating in SIP mode: A v1.1 or later SIP Server is
required. See the SIP Server Installation and Configuration Manual (document part no.
835.2605) for details.
•
Models 8664, 8665, 8668 wireless endpoints: A NetLink SVP (SpectraLink
check box Priority) server is required. See the NetLink SVP Server and Model 8664/
8665/8668 Installation Manual (document part no. 935.4521) for details.
•
Analog Phones: Industry-standard, three-pair (six-conductor) twisted cable to run from
the MDF to all analog phones and six-conductor modular jack (line jack unit) assem-
blies for all station instruments.
•
A high-impedance digital multimeter to check the power supply and ensure correct wir-
ing of the modular jack (line jack unit) assemblies. Multimeter accuracy must be ±0.5%
or better.
•
With a U.S. system, standard terminal blocks (66M1-50 type) and bridging clips for
constructing the MDF. With a European system, Krone blocks for the MDF jumper
field.
•
With a U.S. system, industry-standard, 25-pair cable for connecting the MDF terminal
blocks to the circuit cards in the equipment chassis.
•
Industry-standard, cross-connect wire [industry-standard jumper in Europe] may be
needed for certain applications.
