Passwords

17.2 Passwords are very important to system security. Without sufficient password protec-
tion, the database is vulnerable to unauthorized access.
17.3 The system passwords are located in the Passwords folder (the shortcut is "PASS"). The
Password folder contains ten password entries that allow you to set the description (up to 20
characters) and define the password. The password can be up to 8 digits in length. You can also
program the access rights for passwords 2-10. The first password is special because it is the
administrator's password. This selection cannot have its access rights customized and thus the
administrator will always be able to use everything in DB Programming.
17.4 As of v8.0, administrators can use their password (password #1) as the old password
when changing other passwords (e.g., network, socket, etc.). For example, if changing a socket
connection password, the administrator password is accepted as a valid entry in the Old pass-
word text box. This allows administrators to change passwords that may have been forgotten.
17.5 In v9.006 or later system, there is a new Windows administrator password. Instead of a
blank admin password, "itpassw" is now the default admin password. To prevent unauthorized
access, field technicians should change the default system password to a higher security pass-
word as soon as possible (for example, at least eight characters, combination of upper and
lower case and numbers, etc.).
17.6 When you right-click on a password, you will see an option for editing the Access
Rights and for Editing the password.
