8.37 Prior to performing the procedure, review the following items:
Retrieve the system logs if the past history is relevant to default the CPC.
Have the necessary license files and software to reload on the CPC.
A database save of a known good database.
Confirm or convert the database if necessary (64, 128 or 256).
8.38 To factory default the CPC:
Turn on power to CPC and wait for LEDs to begin cycling (this process will last 10-15

seconds).
Press the * button exactly four times (all LEDs will light when the button is pressed).

Wait for the LED cycle process to complete.
3.
If the button was pressed exactly four times all LEDs will light for one to two seconds.
4.
if the button was not pressed four times, CPC will boot as normal.
Quickly press the * button one more time while the LEDs are all lit (after two seconds,

the CPC will boot as normal).
If the button press process was successful, the LEDs will begin flashing rapidly while

the CPC erases or defaults itself.
The CPC will remain in this state for approximately 60 seconds. It is extremely impor-
7.
tant that you wait until the CPC resets itself at the end of the process. Resetting the CPC
while it is erasing/debugging can have catastrophic effects on the CPC. This process is
visible through a terminal program connected to RS-232-1.
8.39 Message print provides the following information when using this procedure.

Power is cycled on the CPC and the * button has bee pressed 4 times.
