MANUAL VERSION 11.0 – May 2008
CPU Cards: CPU cards should be upgraded using the proper upgrade kit. The kit part
numbers are listed in the following table.
Table A-4.

NOTE:
You do not need to upgrade the CPC.
Firmware Configuration: You must configure all IPRC settings, other than those
specified by the PAL, using the DB Programming interface. An IPRC does include
web-based and telnet configuration interfaces. However, the system does not propagate
changes made using these interfaces to call processing, and call processing may quickly
override such changes. Therefore, you should only use these interfaces for troubleshoot-
ing purposes when call processing is not communicating with the IPRC. When you
attempt to save any configuration changes using these interfaces, the IPRC warns you
that those changes will be overwritten the next time the card communicates with call
processing. The firmware operation is as follows:
Companding Type: An IPRC transmits audio data using the system-wide com-
panding type.
DTMF: When DTMF tone is detected, the system uses the DTMF encoding set-
tings dictated by DB Programming (see
the DTMF encoding settings).
Minor and Major Resets: When an IPRC encounters a software fault (minor
reset), the system attempts to reconnect all conversations and data connections.
After a major reset, the system cannot re-establish existing connections.
Installation recommendations include the following:
Each node must have at least one central office trunk. Emergency calls should be pro-
grammed to use the local trunk.
If the Voice Processing Unit is shared by multiple nodes, all of the nodes should have
access to the node where the Voice Processing Unit is located, with a minimum number
of hops through other nodes. This will have significant impact on the network layout.
The network does not allow one node to use another node's resources (DSP resources,
