18. TCP/IP SOCKET CONNECTIONS
18.1 The CP Server can use TCP/IP socket connections to Message Print, SMDR, System
OAI, or the User System Monitor.
Message Print and SMDR: These are the simplest socket threads. They are transmit-
only sockets (from the CP Server). The CP Server will support up to ten of each type of
socket.
System OAI Level 2: These are the next simplest socket threads. They receive and
transmit ASCII characters. The maximum number of OAI sockets is 30. These are pri-
marily used by the CT Gateway and Transceiver applications to provide a high speed
connection to third-party OAI vendors who are not socket-aware at this time.
NOTE:
and later.
DB Programming and Voice Processing Unit: These sockets are essentially identical
in that they still require the use of the ASAI protocol to communicate. These sockets
are not available to developers and are used exclusively by the Voice Processing Unit
and DB Programming for high-speed access to Call Processing. See the System Manual
for Voice Processing Unit setup.
Desktop Interface: These sockets provide a two-way TCP/IP link that is identical to an
RS232 Desktop Interface connection.
System Monitor: This is a socket-based diagnostic tool, used for performing diagnostic
functions that are available through various interfaces in DB Programming or from an
administrative Executive Display, Professional Display, or Model 8560 Phone. It gives
an Inter-Tel engineer access to various call processing structures without the aide of a
technician on site to enter feature codes.
18.2 Invalid client connections are rejected and denied any access. To ensure connections are
available when needed, you should verify that the socket is enabled. You can also assign a
password to the socket for security purposes. To access these programming options for the
CPU card sockets, click on the CPU card slot while in system DB Programming. Then open
the Cabinets folder and double-click on
socket:
Password: Right-click on the current network password, if applicable, and select
Password

boxes. Click
Enabled: Ensure that
mark in the box.
NOTE:
18.3 If using TCP/IP socket connections on a system, a security key with Standard Features
is also required (part no. 827.9360).

System OAI Level 1 sockets are no longer supported with system versions 6.0
to assign/change the password for the socket. Enter the old password, if one
to save your changes.
