8.33 The * button procedure for the Backup Database Bypass: To bypass the backup
database restore feature, press the * button after power up while the top four LEDs are flashing
the up/down sequence. This will prevent the backup database from being restored on additional
resets after the system database has been defaulted.

Factory Default Procedure

8.35 The * button on the CPC can be used to factory default the CPC using the procedure
below. The following procedure will remove all databases and license files from the CPC. Use
caution when using this procedure because there you cannot recover any files on the CPC once
this process has been implemented.
8.36 This procedure will return the CPC to a "factory default" state as if the CPC were new.
The CPC must have boot code 2.0.4 or higher to complete this procedure. It is to be used when
programming is not accessible or when it is necessary to restore the CPC to default state. Per-
forming the following procedure will erase or default the following:

Save the current database if allowed. If not, locate the last known good database to
restore.
Run DB test on the database and have it fix the errors.
Default the CPC through DB Programming.
After the CPC resets it will load a default database this time only. (If the CPC is reset or
loses power, it will restore the backup database unless the * button is pressed)
Immediately connect to DB Programming and run the Backup Database Save thus sav-
ing the defaulted database to backup memory. (This will replace the backup database
with a default database).
If for some reason the system lost power or reset before implementing items 4 or 5,
