3. T1 NETWORKING

3.1
A T1 connection is used for connecting two system nodes in a network. Each network
span requires two T1 or T1/E1/PRI cards, one for each end of the span. The cards require the
most recent firmware to support networking (use upgrade kit part number 828.1506). Point-to-
point clear channel T1 spans are used to connect the nodes. For each network span, order a
clear channel, point-to-point T1 span from the service provider (not PRI service, even though
you will be using T1/PRI or T1/E1/PRI cards). The following figure illustrates a sample T1
connection.

3.2
In a T1 network that involves multiple CO and T1 card connections, the line buildout is
determined by each connection. In the example shown above, the two T1 cards connected to
the CO receive reference clock from the public network and are slave clocks. The two that are
connecting the Inter-Tel systems do not draw reference from the public network. T1 #2 on sys-
tem #1 is the master clock and T1 #1 on system #2 is a slave clock.
A. HARDWARE INSTALLATION
3.3
To install a network, you will need the following:
IP Networking Software License: Each node in the network must have a software
license that supports the networking premium feature.
NOTE:
PAL. See
T1 Service: For each network span, order a clear channel, point-to-point T1 span from
the service provider (not PRI service, even though you will be using T1/PRI cards).
T1/PRI or T1/E1/PRI Cards: Each network span requires two cards, one for each end
of the span. The cards require the most recent firmware (use upgrade kit part number
828.1459).
CPU Cards: CPU cards should be upgraded using the proper upgrade kit. The kit part
numbers are:
