C. DUAL-CHASSIS CONFIGURATION
27.6 A dual-chassis system can only support 14 T1 cards. The T1 cards should be placed in
descending order starting with slot 7 in chassis 1 and ending with slot 4, as shown in the table
below. Then cards should be added to chassis 2 starting in slot 9 and ending in slot 12. After
that, cards should be alternated from chassis 1 to chassis 2 to balance the voice channel usage.
27.7 Any Slave-to-Public Network cards should be installed first followed by any Slave-to-
Private Network cards. Any Master-to-Private Network cards should be installed last.
27.8 If you are expanding from a single chassis to a dual chassis, you should move the T1
cards from slots 1, 2, or 3, into slots 9, 10, and 11 to help balance the voice channel usage.
Also, as many of the first four positions should be Slave-to-Public Network cards to improve
clock switching in the event of losing the T1 span providing reference.

D. TRI-CHASSIS CONFIGURATION
27.9 A tri-chassis system can support up to 21 T1 cards. The T1 cards should be placed in
descending order starting with slot 7 in chassis 1 and ending with slot 4. Then cards should be
added to chassis 3, starting in slot 23 and ending in slot 19. Next, cards should be added to the
first 4 slots in chassis 2. After 4 T1s have been added to each chassis, then alternate the addi-
tion of new T1 cards starting with chassis 1, then 3, and finally 2. Also, any Slave-to-Public
Network cards should be installed first followed by any Slave-to-Private Network cards. Any
Master-to-Private Network cards should be installed last.
27.10 If you are expanding from a single- or dual-chassis configuration, you should redistrib-
ute existing T1 cards to follow this configuration to help balance voice channel usage.
