MANUAL VERSION 11.0 – May 2008
C. REMOTE MAINTENANCE AND DIAGNOSTICS
12.5 These protocols provide capabilities to diagnose problems, update software, etc. To
enable remote maintenance and diagnostics over the Internet, enable the ports for DB Program-
ming (TCP port 4000), Web interfaces (TCP port 80), SSH (TCP port 22), and AVDAP Moni-
tor (TCP port 4444).

13. INTERNAL SESSION INITIATION PROTOCOL (SIP)

13.1 The SIP protocol presents some special challenges in that it does not function well
when passing through NAT. In the diagram below, this means that the SIP server cannot com-
municate with the internal SIP endpoint. The SIP server must be in the DMZ because its com-
munication with the Axxess system cannot pass through NAT. The only solution to this
problem is to utilize a SIP-aware firewall that can perform the appropriate adjustments associ-
ated with NAT.
13.2 One other special characteristic of SIP on Axxess is that the call control communica-
tions go to the CPC (or CPS) while the audio goes to the IPRC. This needs to be taken into
account for firewall configuration.
