27. CLOCK CONFIGURATIONS FOR THE SYSTEM T1 AND E1 CARDS
NOTE:
System. Although not required, failure to follow these recommendations can lead to intermittent
voice degradation due to slips and clock synchronization problems and voice channel resource
blocking. Although the new T1/E1/PRI card has no slot dependency, this document still recom-
mends following the same guidelines as the previous T1/PRI Card to preserve backward com-
patibility with old cards and systems.
27.1 In the following guidelines, "Slave-to-Public Network," "Slave-to-Private Network,"
and "Master-to-Private Network" refer to the phone system's T1 or E1 cards (T1C, T1/PRI,
E1C, E1/PRI, or T1/E1/PRI Card) and their software/hardware configuration.
A. QUAD CP SERVER NETWORKING HUB
27.2 The CP Server supports up to 28 PRI cards. Other System CPUs allow up to 28 T1
cards, but only eight of those can be PRI-equipped.
27.3 This configuration assumes that you will be installing a networking hub with eight or
more PRI-equipped T1 or T1/E1 cards.
NOTE:
moved if additional T1s are added to the system.
B. SINGLE-CHASSIS CONFIGURATION
27.4 A single chassis can only support seven T1 cards. The T1 cards should be placed in
descending order staring with slot 7. The table below shows a single chassis configuration. The
"SLOT" row indicates the slot number on the equipment chassis. The "ORDER" row indicates
the order in which T1 cards should be added to the system.

Order
27.5 Slave-to-Public Network cards should be installed first, followed by Slave-to-Private
Network cards, and finally, Master-to-Private Network cards. The clock configuration should
start with the clock providing reference in slot 7, the next clock reference in slot 6, and so on
with the card in slot 1 as the last card to provide reference.
