To help avoid an air embolism, syringes from Bayer are
equipped with FluiDots indicators. FluiDots indicators
should be observed as part of an arming procedure. When
the FluiDots are viewed through an empty syringe, the dots
appear as small narrow ellipses. When viewed through a
fluid-filled syringe, the dots become larger (almost round).
Empty Syringe
Filled Syringe
Operator vigilance and care, coupled with a set procedure, is
essential to minimizing the possibility of air embolism.
Ensure that one operator is designated the responsibility of
filling the syringe(s). Do not change operators during the
procedure. If an operator change must occur, ensure that
the new operator verifies that the fluid path is purged of air.
Connector Tube Installation
After loading and priming the syringes, install the connector
tube.
1.
Remove the connector tube from the package.
Remove the dust covers on the luer fittings.
2.
Ensure that all air is purged from the syringes.
3.
Securely attach the connector tube to the syringes as
shown. Do not install with excessive force.
4.
Ensure that the connector
luer fitting is secured to
the tips of the syringes
and verify that the tubing
is not kinked or
obstructed.
5.
Prime the tubing by pressing the Prime button.
6.
Ensure that all air is purged.
7.
Rotate the injector head downward.
8.
Examine the fluid path for air. Confirm that
the fluid path is clear of excess air by
pressing the Check for Air Confirmation
Button. Connect to the patient.
Removing the Syringes
1.
Disconnect the disposable tubing set from the
vascular entry device. The disposable tubing set does
not need to be disconnected from the syringes.
