NTP-D348 Install the Filler Cards

Filler cards serve three important functions: they prevent exposure to hazardous voltages and
currents inside the chassis; they contain EMI that might disrupt other equipment; and they direct the
flow of cooling air through the chassis. Do not operate the system unless all cards and faceplates are
in place. Statement 156
Always use the supplied ESD wristband when working with a powered ONS 15454_SDH. Plug the

wristband cable into the ESD jack located on the lower right outside edge of the shelf assembly and
ensure the shelf assembly is properly grounded.
Open the card ejectors.

If you insert a card into a slot provisioned for a different card, all LEDs turn off.

This procedure explains how to install the filler cards in any unused traffic
or AIC-I card slots (Slots 1 through 6, 9, and 12 through 17). A filler card
consists of a card with a faceplate attached. There is no label on the
faceplate and the filler card is not detectable by CTC.
Filler cards aid in maintaining proper air flow and electromagnetic
interference (EMI) requirements.
