Syntax
peer ip-address
undo peer ip-address
View
RIP view
Parameter
ip-address: IP address specified to exchange information with.
Description
Using the peer command, you can allow routing information exchange between
neighboring routers. When two routers are connected through non-broadcast network,
this command will be used. Otherwise, no routing information exchange can be
realized. Using the undo peer command, you can disable the routing information
exchange with the specified router.
By default, there is no neighboring router.
RIP is a broadcast protocol. It exchanges routing information with non-broadcasting
networks in the unicast mode.
Normally the peer command is not recommended, because the peer does not need to
receive two identical packets at one time. Note that when sending packets, rip work,
rip output, rip input and network also limit the peer command.
To specify additional peers, multiple peer commands can be used.
Example
# Specify IP address 202.38.165.1 as a peer.
[3Com-rip] peer 202.38.165.1
