effect only if idle-timeout command has been configured. The packets argument
defaults to 10.
Description
Using the pppoe-client command, you can configure up a PPPoE session and
associate a dialer bundle with the session. Using the undo pppoe-client command,
you can cancel the PPPoE session,.
By default, PPPoE session is not configured.
One Ethernet interface can contain multiple PPPoE sessions. In other words, an
Ethernet interface can be assigned to multiple dialer bundles at the same time. But a
dialer bundle can have only one Ethernet interface. One dialer bundle can only
associate with one PPPoE session. If an Ethernet interface of the dialer bundle on a
dialer interface has been used for PPPoE, other interfaces could not be added into the
dialer bundle any more. Likewise, if the dialer bundle has had interfaces rather than
PPPoE interface, the Ethernet interface used as PPPoE client could not be added into
the dialer bundle.
If a PPPoE session is permanent, the router will originate a PPPoE call for establishing
PPPoE session immediately. This PPPoE connection will be permanently in place
unless it is deleted by executing the undo pppoe-client command. If a PPPoE session
is packet-triggered, the router will originate a PPPoE call for setting up PPPoE session
only when there is data waiting for transmission. And the router will automatically
terminate the session if no data transmission activities on the PPPoE link for seconds.
The session will be established again only if there is new data requiring transmission.
For related commands, see reset pppoe-client.
