Description
Using the shutdown command, you can disable the specified interface. Using the
undo shutdown command, you can enable the interface.
By default, all interfaces are opened.
This command takes effect on the physical interface, the tunnel interface and the
MFR interface.
In some circumstances such as modifying the working parameter of a certain
interface, the modification could not take effect immediately. It is necessary to shut
down and restart the interface before the modification can take effect.

# Shut down Ethernet interface 0
[3Com-Ethernet0]shutdown
% Interface Ethernet0 is down
% Interface Ethernet0 changed state to DOWN
% Line protocol ip on interface Ethernet0, changed state to DOWN
