Using Management over Wireless

The Alcatel Management over Wireless feature allows Alcatel OmniAccess Wireless System operators to
monitor and configure their local Alcatel OmniAccess Switch or Appliance using a wireless client. This
feature is supported for all management tasks except uploads to and downloads from (transfers to and
from) the Alcatel OmniAccess Switch or Appliance.
Before you can use the Management over Wireless feature, you must properly configure the Alcatel
OmniAccess Switch or Appliance using either of the following two sections:

Using the Command Line Interface
•
Using the Alcatel OmniAccess Switch Web Interface
Using the Command Line Interface
1.
In the CLI, use the show network command to verify whether the

To Enable Management over Wireless, use the following command:
>config network mgmt-via-wireless enable
to enable Management over Wireless for the WLAN.

Use a wireless client to associate with an OmniAccess AP 1200 or 1250 connected to the Alcatel
OmniAccess Switch or Appliance you wish to manage.
4.
Use the telnet < Alcatel OmniAccess Switch or Appliance Network or DS Port
IP Address> command and log into the CLI to verify that you can manage the WLAN using a
wireless client.
Using the Alcatel OmniAccess Switch Web Interface
1.
In the Alcatel OmniAccess Switch Web Interface, use the Management/Mgmt Via Wireless
links to navigate to the Management Via Wireless page.
2.
In the Management Via Wireless page, verify that the Enable Switch Management to be
accessible from Wireless Clients selection box is checked. If the selection box is not
checked, continue with Step 2. Otherwise, continue with Step 3.
3.
In the Management Via Wireless page, check the Enable Switch Management to be
accessible from Wireless Clients selection box to select Management over Wireless for the
WLAN.
4.
Click Apply to enable Management over Wireless for the WLAN.
5.
Use a wireless client web browser to connect to the Alcatel OmniAccess Switch or Appliance
Management Port or DS Port IP Address, and log into the Alcatel OmniAccess Switch Web Inter-
face to verify that you can manage the WLAN using a wireless client.
