Overview
This guide is designed to provide you with the information needed to install Alcatel OmniAccess WLAN
Switches and Appliances. Model 4012 and 4024 Alcatel OmniAccess WLAN Switches and Model 4102
Alcatel OmniAccess WLAN Appliances are part of the innovative Alcatel OmniAccess Wireless System
(Alcatel OmniAccess Wireless System).
This document assumes that the 802.11 topology has been determined as described in the
Direct-Connect Mode, Appliance Mode and Hybrid Mode sections in the Alcatel OmniAccess Wireless
Product Guide. Because the OmniVista AirView Software feature automatically detects and configures
the OmniAccess AP Access Points (OmniAccess AP Access Points) as they appear on network, it is not
necessary to have any OmniAccess AP Access Points on the network to install and configure an Alcatel
OmniAccess Switches and Appliances.
The Alcatel OmniAccess Switch or Appliance is a slim 9 x 5.5 x 1.5 in. (22.9 x 14.0 x 3.8 cm) chassis
that can be rack, desktop, or shelf mounted. As shown in the following figures, the Alcatel OmniAccess
Switch or Appliance is shipped with 19 inch (48.26 cm) EIA rack-mount ears and four rubber desktop/
shelf mounting feet.
The following figure shows the 4024 Alcatel OmniAccess WLAN Switch. The 4012 Alcatel OmniAccess
WLAN Switch is similar, except that it has 12 front-panel 10/100Base-T jacks instead of 24.

The following figure shows the 4102 Alcatel OmniAccess WLAN Appliance, which has two front-panel
1000Base-SX connectors.Alcatel OmniAccess WLAN Appliance Note that the 1000Base-SX Network
Adapters provides 100/1000 Mbps wired connections to a network through 850nM (SX) fiber-optic links
using LC physical connectors.
