BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

PRECAUTION
HINT:
Take care to observe the following precautions when performing inspections or removal and replacement
of body electrical related parts.
1.
PRECAUTION OF DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT SYSTEM
(a)
Disconnect the connector of the light control computer after disconnecting the battery negative termi-
nal or turn off the light control switch off.
(b)
When any defects such as deformation, crack, dent, chipping, etc. are identified on the discharge
headlight (especially on the light control ECU) and headlight is damaged by collision, replace the dis-
charge headlight with a new one.
(c)
Even if the discharging operation seems to be normal, the fail−safe function may be defective.
(d)
Touching the high voltage socket of the discharge headlight with the headlight dimmer switch ON could
generate momentary high voltage of 20, 000 V and lead to a serious accident.
(e)
Never connect a tester to the high voltage socket of the discharge headlight for measurement, as this
leads to a serious accident because of high voltage.
(f)
When performing operation related to the discharge headlight, keep it away from water such as rain,
turn off the light control switch, and disconnect the battery terminal and connector of the light control
ECU in advance to avoid electric shock.
(g)
When performing operation related to the discharge headlight, start operation after assembling is com-
pletely over and never turn on the light without a bulb installed.
(h)
Do not turn on the discharge headlight using another power source except vehicle's.
2.
HEADLIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT
(a)
If the adhered oil is left on the halogen lamp surface, the lamp service life is shortened as it becomes
hot when it is turned on.
(b)
Since the internal pressure of a discharge headlight and halogen bulbs is high, dropping, hitting or
damaging the bulb may cause the glass to scatter. Therefore, handle the headlight bulb with great
care.
(c)
When replacing bulb, prepare a new bulb before starting operation.
(d)
A bulb of the same watt must be used for bulb replacement.
(e)
Firmly reinstall the socket in bulb replacement. Otherwise, cloudy lens or invasion by water will be
caused.
Halogen bulbs have pressurized gas inside and require special handling. They can burst if scratched or
dropped. Hold a bulb only by its plastic or metal case.
Don't touch the glass part of a bulb with bare hands.
3.
SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM)
The CELICA is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) such as the driver airbag and front
passenger airbag and side airbag. Failure to carry out service operation in the correct sequence could cause
the SRS to unexpectedly deploy during servicing, possibly leading to a serious accident. Before servicing
(including removal or installation of parts, inspection or replacement), be sure to read the precautionary no-
tices in the RS section.
4.
AUDIO SYSTEM
If the negative (−) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery, the preset AM, FM 1 and FM 2 stations
stored in memory are erased, so be sure to note the stations and reset them after the battery terminal is
reconnected.
5.
MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
If the vehicle is equipped with a mobile communication system, refer to precautions in the IN section.
