ELECTRICAL
Dismantling
1.
Remove the nut and spring washer. Disconnect the
motor lead from the solenoid 'ST A' terminal.
2.
Remove two nuts and washers. Withdraw the solenoid
leaving the plunger attached to the engaging lever.
Note that two starter motors have been fitted to the TR6
model range. Ensure that information obtained from this
manual refers to the appropriate starter motor for the
specific vehicle. A Lucas type M418G PE unit was fitted up
to engine numbers CP 53636 and CC 63894.

and CC 63895.

Remove the return spring.
Remove the plunger from the engaging lever.
Slacken the locknut. Unscrew and withdraw the
eccentric pin.
Remove the cover band.
Withdraw the brushes from the holders.
Remove two through bolts.
Carefully tap the fixing bracket mounting lugs to
separate the yoke from the fixing bracket.
Separate the commutator end bracket from the yoke.
Remove the steel thrust washer and the fabric thrust
washer.
Remove the rubber moulding.
Withdraw the armature and starter drive assembly.
Remove the engaging lever.
Remove the thrust washer.
