SOLENOID
- Test
40.22.01
OVERDRIVE-J TYPE
I.
Connect the solenoid in series with a 12-volt battery
and ammeter.
2.
The solenoid should draw approximately 2 amps
3.
Check that the plunger in the valve moves forward
when the solenoid is energized.
4.
Check that the plunger in the valve returns to its
direct drive position by spring pressure when the
solenoid is de-energized.
NOTE: The solenoid does not operate with a loud
click as the other types of overdrive.
5.
If the solenoid is still faulty, the complete unit must
be renewed,
Refitting
4.
Screw the solenoid into the casing.
5.
Tighten with a spanner.
6.
Connect Lucar connectors to the terminals; these can
be connected either way round.
7.
Connect the negative lead of the battery.
Removing
I.
Disconnect the negative battery lead.
2.
Disconnect the two Lucar connectors from the
solenoid.
3.
Using a I in (25 mm) A.F. open-ended spanner on the
hexagon, loosen and unscrew the solenoid.
NOTE: Do not attempt to remove the solenoid by
gripping the cylindrical body as this is very easily
damaged.
