Examples
The following example shows how to return the router to the next higher command mode. In this
example, the exit command exits from interface configuration mode and returns to global configuration
mode. The exit command is entered a second time to exit from global configuration mode and return to
EXEC mode. Because the configuration has not been committed explicitly (with the commit command),
the system prompts to commit the configuration changes made during the session.
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:router# configure
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:router(config)# interface pos 0/2/0/0
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:router(config-if)# ipv4 address 1.1.1.1 255.0.0.0
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:router(config-if)# exit
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:router(config)# exit
Uncommitted changes found, commit them before exiting(yes/no/cancel)?[cancel]: yes
The following example shows how to use the exit command from EXEC mode to log off from a terminal
session:
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:router# exit
router con0_RP1_CPU0 is now available
Press RETURN to get started.
