PASSENGER AIR BAG (INFLATOR) MODULE
WARNING:
D Never attempt to disassemble or repair the passenger
air bag (inflator) module. If any abnormality is found,
be sure to replace it with new one as an assembly.
D When handling it, be sure to read "SERVICE PRECAU-
TION" under "ON-VEHICLE SERVICE" and observe
each instruction.
The passenger air bag (inflator) module consists of an inflatable
bag, an inflator and a trim cover, and is mounted above the glove
box in the instrument panel on the passenger side.
The passenger inflator consists of initiator, burst disk and inflator
gas tank.
When the vehicle is in a frontal crash of sufficient force, the SDM
causes current to flow through the passenger deployment loop.
Current passing through the initiator causes a chemical reaction to
occur. This chemical reaction generates pressure, depressing a
burst disk which releases the stored gas rapidly inflating the air
bag.
Once deployment starts, expansion force of the inflatable bag
forces the trim cover and move up.
