6A3-46 ENGINE MECHANICAL (J18 TYPE ENGINE)
Don't apply force
1. Engine oil
2. Valve lash adjuster
9) After removing 2nd timing chain, set key on crankshaft in posi-
tion as shown by turning crankshaft. This is to prevent interfer-
ence between valves and piston.
10) Loosen camshaft housing bolts in such order as indicated in
figure and remove them.
11) Remove camshaft housings.
12) Remove camshafts.
13) Remove valve lash adjusters.
NOTE:
D Never disassemble hydraulic valve lash adjuster.
D Don't apply force to body of adjuster, oil in high pres-
sure chamber in adjuster will leak.
D Immerse removed adjuster in clean engine oil and keep
it there till reinstalling it so as to prevent oil leakage. If
it is left in air, place it with its bucket body facing down.
Don't place on its side or with bucket body facing up.
INSPECTION
Cam Wear
Using a micrometer, measure cam height. If measured height is be-
low its limit, replace camshaft.
Cam height
40.428 – 40.588 mm
Intake cam
(1.5917 – 1.5980 in.)
39.922 – 40.082 mm
Exhaust cam
(1.5717 – 1.5780 in.)
Standard
Limit
40.228 mm
(1.5838 in.)
39.722 mm
(1.5639 in.)
