2ND TIMING CHAIN AND CHAIN TENSIONER
NOTE:
When removing and installing 2nd timing chain, engine should be stable with front torque bush and rear
mounting installed to mounting member.
1. Timing marks of intake camshaft timing sprocket
2. Timing marks of exhaust camshaft timing sprocket
3. Arrow mark on idler sprocket
4. Key on crankshaft
ENGINE MECHANICAL (J18 TYPE ENGINE) 6A3-33
REMOVAL
1) Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2) Drain engine oil.
3) Drain coolant.
4) Remove oil pan.
Refer to item "OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP STRAINER" in this sec-
tion for removal.
5) Remove cylinder head cover.
Refer to item "CYLINDER HEAD COVER" in this section for re-
moval.
6) Remove timing chain cover.
Refer to item "TIMING CHAIN COVER" in this section for re-
moval.
7) Turn crankshaft to meet the following conditions.
D Key (1) on crankshaft is positioned as shown.
D Arrow mark on idler sprocket (2) points upward.
D Marks on sprockets (3) match with marks on cylinder
head.
Note that this step must be followed for reinstallation of timing
chain.
1. 2nd timing chain
2. Timing chain tensioner adjuster No.2
3. Tensioner adjuster No.2 gasket
4. Intake camshaft timing sprocket
5. Exhaust camshaft timing sprocket
6. Idler sprocket
7. Timing chain guide No.2
