PARKING BRAKE CABLE NOISE
Some 1987 WRANGLER/YJ vehicles, built prior to VIN 2 BXXXXXXXHB520144, may produce a
noise in the right rear area when the rear of the vehicle is loaded. This noise may be caused by the
parking brake cable rubbing the edge of the right rear wheel rim.
Service correction involves the installation of a parking brake cable locating clip to prevent cable
movement.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the fasteners (D) holding the right
rear parking brake cable bracket (C) to the
floorpan (Fig. 1).
Fig. 1
2. Slide the bracket toward the right rear wheel.
3. Measure 559 mm ± 3 mm (22.0 in. ±
0.125 in.) back from the parking brake cable
mounting bracket (E) and snap the locating
clip (A) over the parking brake cable (Fig. 2).
NOTE: Make sure the parking brake cable is
routed below the heat shield (B).
